The FTS-closure can be opened without any tool and damage of the bag by means of a tear strip. Therefore contamination of the content with shreds of paper is impossible.
The bag content is poured out over a clean edge, protected against contamination inside the folding for the whole duration of transport and storage. The tear strip allows end user friendly packaging. Strippable bags permit 100 percent grading of the disposable bag material without any effort.
Method of operation
FTS bag closing machines operate in a continuous manner. Maintenance-free toothed carrier belts keep the flattened bag top perfectly aligned, while it passes through the different steps of operation supported by a conveyor (additional quipment). First the bag top is trimmed parallel to the folding line allowing the closure of the bag as near as possible to the filling level. The bag top then is creased and folded over twice before a glue-coated paper tape is sealed to the folded bag top. The additional operation - heat sealing of the plastic inner liner or coating - on Models FTS 800…1800 is executed after the bag top was trimmed. At customer’s option, the integrated tear strip applicator may apply a tear strip to the tape offering the easy opening of the bag.

Cleaning station
When powders (contrary to granules, prills, flakes) are filled into bags, dust clouds blow up in the bag on the spout during the filling process and contaminate the inner bag wall with a dust layer. This layer works as a separating agent for later heat sealing of the inner liner – the seal can be peeled when stressed. In the cleaning station dives a nozzle for approx 50 mm into the bag (top) and blows off the dust in the sealing zone. A heat seal made in this clean zone does not peel.
Pneumatic heater bar opening
On FTS with inner liner heat seal are the heater bars (cast iron) in direct contact with the paper bags, at temperatures of approx. 180°C. This is no problem for the paper at the normally short contact times of 4 – 6 s during passage. But if the the machine is stopped (havary, emergency stop, etc.) with a bag inside the heat seal section, the paper will burn after more than 2 or 3 minutes. This is no problem with harmless products, only this bag is lost. But when the product is combustible, like starch or dextrose, you have a fire problem. The automatic gap opening swivvels the heaer bars to each side 10 mm off, whenever the main drive of the sealer does not turn.
Electromotive elevating device
The distance between conveyor and sealer head must be adapted to different bag lengths. This can be done by rising or descending the conveyor or sealer head, the other being at fix level. The sealer head is generally height-adjustable (belts at 700 – 1630 mm above floor range), this is for the light and medium wheight heads with a manual crank (on long heavy-weight heads always electromotive). If the sealer head shall be adapted to the bag length frequently, the manual crank can be replaced by the comfortable electromotive hight adjustment.
